ROBBY’S WEST HOLLYWOOD OFFERS COOL COMFORT FOOD

Writer: Jose MartinezJose Martinez

New to the popular WeHo food scene is Robby’s West Hollywood, which has set up shop at the former Hot N Juicy Crawfish space at La Brea and Santa Monica. From owner Robby Christie of Rob’s Place, a longtime steakhouse located in Murphys some 350 miles from Los Angeles in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Calaveras County, is a place to literally wine and dine.

Sporting an impressive wine list, most of the wines are from Calaveras County vineyards, aka Wine Town, and aptly showoff the area. For those unfamiliar, Murphys is home to some 30 wineries that produce bold Spanish and Italian varietals, such as Barbera, Tempranillo, Syrah, as well as Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc.

“At Robby’s, we serve up modern American cuisine crafted with passion, featuring locally sourced ingredients and our signature Rob’s Love seasoning,” owner Robby Christie says.

Robby’s enjoys a wine and beer liquor license so think sangria as well as wine and beer-based cocktails such as mimosa, bellini, and michelada. But you’ll be in good hands if you opt for wine or beer. During our recent visit, I started with a nice glass of sangria that really kicked things off in style.

An excellent starter to share is Rob’s Chicken Flat Bread prepared with grilled chicken, caramelized onion, sundried tomato, capers, and fried onion on a romesco sauced Naan flat bread. Think of this as a lovely and savory pizza and pair it with a glass or two of wine. Believe me, this alone will be a satisfying meal. But if you’re looking for a more daring night out, don’t stop there and get the Tempura Avocado or the Turnover with bacon, sauté onion, white cheddar cheese, green apple stuffed with puff pastry served with sliced apples and roasted red bell pepper vinaigrette.

Pasta fans, look no further than Rob’s Carbonara made with ground beef, beef chorizo, bacon, onion, garlic sauté and tossed with white wine, egg and parmesan cheese. This is flavorful feast. And it’s a very generous serving so be ready for leftovers.

For those with a real hearty appetite or for the carnivore in the group, the Rib-Eye will not disappoint. This 16oz rib-eye is grilled to perfection and prepped with a triple IPA and porter beer, rosemary, and topped with a demi chocolate sauce. You might think, chocolate sauce? Yes, chocolate sauce! We’re not talking sweet, ice cream sundae chocolate sauce here, instead it’s a nice bittersweet choco sauce that adds a nice finishing flavor.

Rob must have quite the sweet tooth because the dessert menu at Robby’s is impressive.

Choose from the decadent fritter to cannoli to crème brulee cheesecake to quadruple chocolate mousse pie to bread pudding with whiskey buttercream with ice cream to ice cream with candied bacon. There is something here for all dessert-loving guests. The ice cream with candied bacon features a balsamic reduction, candied bacon, pasticcio, and chili paste oil. Wow!

Robby’s West Hollywood is a welcome addition to the wonderful WeHo dining scene. This is a comfy space where you can wine and dine in cool comfort and bliss.
