Celebrate Mexican Independence Day at Descanso

Fans of great tequila and fine dining in Orange County should get in on this. To celebrate Mexican Independence Day and National Hispanic Heritage Month, Costa Mesa’s Descano has put together a Don Julio Tequila pairing dinner on Monday, September 16. This exclusive event promises a memorable experience, combining a four-course meal with exceptional tequila pairings.

 


Guests will experience an exquisite tequila journey with Don Julio Ambassador Jeff Blakey as Executive Chef Jose Angulo crafts tantalizing bites perfectly harmonized with Don Julio’s diverse expressions.

 


Sip on a curated selection of high-quality tequilas showcasing the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the iconic Mexican spirit. Featured tequilas will be served neat or within a specialty tasting cocktail and expertly paired with Mexican fare thoughtfully prepared by Executive Chef Angulo to enhance the tasting experience.

Starter

Surprise Tequila, served neat 

 

1st Course 

Passionfruit Aguachile 

fresh shrimp cooked in lime juice, passionfruit and guava puree, cilantro, serrano chile, fresno chile, cucumber and red onion

 

Pairing: 

Don Julio Blanco, served neat

 

Cocktail: House Paloma

Don Julio Blanco, simple syrup or fresno chile syrup, lime and grapefruit

 

2nd Course

Tamales de Pato con Mole Negro 

masa dough tamales, braised duck legs, with mole negro, Mexican crema, red onion and sesame seed

 

Pairing:

Don Julio Reposado, served neat

 

Cocktail: Pasion y Plata

Don Julio Reposado, chinola passionfruit liqueur, fresh passionfruit syrup, saffron 

 

3rd Course

Hanger Steak 

Hanger steak with demi-glace, baby carrots, asparagus, oyster mushroom, and butternut puree

 

Pairing:

Don Julio Anejo, served neat

 

Cocktail: Old Fashioned

Don Julio Anejo, agave infused old fashioned (anisette, chocolate bitter)

 

4th Course

Churros

lime churro dough brushed with a tequila lime glaze rolled in sugar and chocolate abuelita

 

Pairing:

Don Julio Alma Miel Joven, served neat
