FROM HEARTY TO HEALTHY
The holiday season is upon us and up next is Thanksgiving, which is easily one of my favorite meals of the year. The turkey, the stuffing (the stuffing is my personal fave), and the cranberry all add up to make a mighty meal often followed by food coma.
But if you want to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner several times, this is the perfect opportunity to indulge in a Thanksgiving sandwich where you can combine all the elements of Thanksgiving dinner into one filling meal—from hearty and meaty to healthy.
Our friends at Fat Sal’s, no stranger to over-the-top eats, have come up with The Fat Pilgrim Sandwich, which goes down well with the Pumpkin Cheesecake Fat Shake. Indeed, The Fat Pilgrim, available until the end of the month, features fresh oven roasted turkey, homemade stuffing, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato fries, and mayo served on a hero. It is in fact a heroic Thanksgiving dinner in a sandwich.
By Fat Sal’s standards, this is a pretty mild creation but it is tasty. At $12.99, it’s a bargain to satisfy and Thanksgiving cravings you have. This one is a home run. The pumpkin cheesecake shake is decadent and over-the-top so save it for a special occasion but get the sandwich as often as your heart desires.
If you’re heart and health conscious, then you should try the by CHLOE Gobble Gobble, a Thanksgiving-themed burger made with lemon-caper seitan, sautéed kale, rosemary gravy, harvest stuffing, and fresh cranberry served on a potato bun. The Gobble Gobble costs $10.95 and features a generous helping that makes for a filling burger or a mountainous salad.
I liked that the Gobble Gobble didn’t come off try, instead it was moist and very flavorful and served as a great non-meat option that still satisfied my Thanksgiving craving. All month long, $1 of every Gobble Gobble sold will be donated to North Shore Animal League America; the world's largest no-kill rescue and adoption organization, which has saved the lives of over 1 million dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at risk of euthanasia.
Another healthy Thanksgiving sandwich option is the Veggie Grill Turkey Dinner Sandwich. Veggie Grill is located all over town so if you can’t get to Silver Lake to dine at by CHLOE, then stop by Veggie Grill for a healthy Thanksgiving mini-meal.
Made with roasted “turkey”, cornbread stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce served with a side of yams, the Turkey Dinner Sandwich is a bargain at $11.50. The combination of the gravy and cranberry kept the sandwich from tasting dry, which is key.
So if you’re like me and you want to enjoy the taste of Thanksgiving dinner without the gluttony all month long, you have options—from meaty to veggie. Now I’m thankful for that.
