Club-button American Asian Italian Latin dine guide

The folks that bring you fresh, seasonal and organic fare at M Street Kitchen in Santa Monica have now opened up a pizza shop on the same block of Main Street called Stella Rossa Pizza Bar.

Each day they handcraft their own dough using locally milled flour, filtered water, sea salt and fresh yeast, resulting in superior tasting pizza pies. The dough is fermented for at least 18 hours, ensuring a crisp, golden crust, chewy center and a unique artisan flavor. Serving a combination of fresh and mouthwatering pizzas, along with a fine selection of wines, cocktails (including red or white sangria, and a potent Chilled Grey Goose Martini), as well as a slew of brews, including bottled local beers; time spent at Stella Rossa Pizza Bar is very satisfying.

Because fresh and organic are very important themes at Stella Rossa, you’ll find wonderful salad selections such as the Yellow Squash & Wild Arugula Salad, along with the Spinach & Purple Kale Salad. Other guilt-free start items ‘for the table’ include the Vegetable Antipasti Plate made from local market vegetables selected daily, and the Baked Goat Cheese & Tomato Sauce, prepared with homemade bread, olive oil, basil and oregano.

But if you’re looking to get down to business, then it’s all about the pizzas. And hands down, the must-have item on the menu is the Housemade Organic Italian Sausage. This is one of the best pizza pies you’ll find in town. Made with tomato, fresh mozzarella, handpicked oregano, fennel pollen, and of course, homemade organic sausage, this is a standout among pizzas.

Stella Rossa Pizza Bar specializes in both Red and White pizzas. From the Red menu you can choose from the aforementioned winner, the Housemade Organic Italian Sausage, along with the tasty Margherita, a spicy Pepperoni, and the Coppa & Smoked Mozzarella.

From the White pizzas, which seem to be a lost art among Los Angeles pizza restaurants, you have the Sicilian Anchovy, made with anchovy confit, caramelized spring onion, gruyére, grana padano, fresh oregano, and extra virgin olive oil. While it seems anchovy pizzas lovers are a dying breed thesedays, this is as good as you’ll find, and it’s not salty and fishy but extremely tasty. The other two White choices are the Fennel Bianco, and the Shaved Mushroom, which I wholeheartedly recommend.

A great new dining find in Santa Monica, Stella Rossa Pizza Bar is perfect for happy hour fun, a cool, casual dinner, or a pizza pig-out fest. Does life actually get any better than a cold beer and an amazing slice of pizza? With a cold Italian beer in hand, think Peroni or Moretti, and a wonderful slice of the Organic Sausage pizza in the other, you, my friend, have just found Nirvana.

Stella Rossa Pizza Bar is located at 2000 Main Street in Santa Monica. Hours: Mon-Thu 5pm - 12am; Fri-Sat 5pm - 1am; Sun 4pm - 11pm. Valet parking available. Call (310) 396-9250.
